One of the Golden Isles of Georgia, that include Sea Island, Simons Island
and Little St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island is located on Georgia's Atlantic
coast. The Island became a desirable tourist destination in the 1880s when the
Jekyll Island Club was built, an extravagant hotel and golf club that remains
in operation today. Jekyll Island features a temperate climate, numerous recreational
activities and picturesque Driftwood Beach. The island's natural beauty can
be explored at the Tidelands Nature Center’s hands-on exhibits and on guided
sea turtle walks. Weadore Sailing, Coastal Expeditions and Vistoria’s Carriage
and Beach Trail Rides provide further guided island experiences. Additional
outdoor family-oriented activities are available at the 11-acre Summer Waves
Water Park and the 36-hole Jekyll Island Miniature Golf Course.
